چکیده

Abstract Loggerhead sea turtle ( C. caretta ) is the official European bioindicator of marine litter in Mediterranean Sea. In 2019, 8 turtles, out 28 specimens loggerhead on Adriatic coast Molise, were subjected to necropsy. The intestinal contents collected and microplastics until 0.45 ?m extracted. Qualitative quantitative assessments performed by stereomicroscope observation spectroscopic analyses (attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, ATR-FTIR Raman microspectroscopy, RMS). Moreover, analytical quantification polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polycarbonate (PC), para phthalic acid (PTA) bisphenol A (BPA) fat liver tissues was LC-MS/MS. Microparticles ranging from 1 mm found all for a 623, while plastic greater than only 4 (ranging 0.03 0.11 g). Nineteen different polymers 10 pigments, including polyester (100% animals), high-density (50%) polypropylene identified. BPA, PTA PET detected animals, PC 50%. major prevalence registered abdominal tissue, although compounds significantly higher tissue p < 0.05), except free with being most contaminated 0.05). Microplastics additives surely impact health status turtles that showed gastrointestinal impairment an important level contamination tissues. Graphical abstract

Comparison of blood values in foraging, nesting, and stranded loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta) along the coast of Georgia, USA.

The health status of 83 loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta; 39 foraging, 31 nesting, and 13 stranded turtles) was analyzed using physical examinations, hematology, plasma biochemistry, plasma protein electrophoresis, and toxicologic parameters. Significant differences were noted in a number of health parameters between turtles exhibiting each of these behaviors. On physical examinations, s...

Natal homing in juvenile loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta).

Juvenile loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta) from West Atlantic nesting beaches occupy oceanic (pelagic) habitats in the eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean, whereas larger juvenile turtles occupy shallow (neritic) habitats along the continental coastline of North America. Hence the switch from oceanic to neritic stage can involve a trans-oceanic migration. Several researchers have suggested th...

Two cases of pseudohermaphroditism in loggerhead sea turtles Caretta caretta.

Two juvenile (curved carapace lengths: 28 and 30 cm) loggerhead sea turtles Caretta caretta with precocious male external characteristics were admitted to the ARCA del Mar rescue area at the Oceanogràfic Aquarium in Valencia, Spain, in 2009 and 2010. Routine internal laparoscopic examination and subsequent histopathology confirmed the presence of apparently healthy internal female gonads in bot...

Foraging ecology of oceanic-stage loggerhead turtles Caretta caretta

We examined stomach contents (n = 12) and fecal samples (n = 4) in the first quantitative analysis of diet composition of oceanic-stage loggerhead turtles Caretta caretta from the North Atlantic Ocean. We found that loggerheads from the Azores are opportunistic carnivores that feed upon a variety of oceanic and pelagic organisms; our results also show that they exploited novel food resources, s...
